Having lived on the North Yorkshire coast, I know my fog so that bit came naturally - I'd also taken some night shots of my home town of Whitby. This was the perfect opportunity to combine those, painting (well, penciling) a familiar scene in a new light and I gave one of the figures just enough of a twist to push the feel over from quaint to really rather creepy.
