This tortoise measures 35mm by 20mm. It is mounted on a 20mm brooch bar, soldered to the copper base.
Yo make the tortoise I first built up several layers of clear enamel on the copper base. I then lay a coat of green over this. Before firing the grean coat I drew through it with the point of a cocktail stick to make the tortoises eye and the patterns of its shell by exposing the colour of the copper base. When I then fired the tortoise the enamel melted but left the lines I had drawn. Because the coat of green is raised on several coats of clear enamel there is a degree of depth between the geen and the copper that offers a 3D effect and affects the reflection and refraction of light from the brooch, letting it shimmer as the direction and intensity of light striking it varies.
Your brooch will be sent boxed, by Royal Mail tracked48.
