Nestled in the hills above Sowerby Bridge, West Yorkshire I design and make unique pieces of silver jewellery in my tiny little workshop. We are lucky to have countryside views and walks straight from the doorstep and as a result I spend a lot of my time outdoors. Whilst out exploring new footpaths and revisiting favourite spots I enjoy taking photographs and love how the landscape constantly changes each season as new plants appear. Taking all this beauty as my inspiration I incorporate patterns and textures taken from nature into my work.
Caring for the planet is really important to me and I think about this in all aspects of my work. All the silver I use is 100% recycled, much of it in the form of silver clay, together with traditional silversmithing techniques. In order to add some colour to my pieces I use fused glass and enamels, all ethically sourced from small UK suppliers. I make sure that I reuse and recycle any packaging I receive where possible and anything I buy to post out your jewellery can be either reused or recycled easily.
Silversmithing is still a relatively new adventure. I used to work as a primary school teacher but turned to a less stressful and demanding occupation when my health was severely impacted by ME/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. Making the decision to put my health first I handled in my notice and had a year out - that was about seven years ago! I now have the flexibility to work around my energy levels and this has allowed me to manage so much more, it has been the best thing I could have ever done for my well-being and can recommend it!
My Facebook and Instagram pages show some of the inspiration found on local walks, along with the jewellery making process. Follow me there if you want to be kept up-to-date.
