I have lived in Scotland all my life, but after 30 years living and working in Edinburgh and bringing up my family, we moved to the west coast of Scotland to fulfill our long held ambition to come back to our roots. I was taught to knit and sew by my mother. She and her mother were great knitters but my mother loved to try lots of different crafts, a trait she passed down to me. I inherited her unused materials when she died and have spent many years picking up yarn, fabric and natural items as I go. When we moved I got my own craft room, so now have no excuse not to be making items.
i have always made items for myself but am now running out of room for them, so for a few years now I have been making things to sell at local craft fairs and in a local museum shop. However, as I have a weakness for top quality materials I have started to sell my homemade items online to reach a wider audience who appreciate the quality, time I take to make them and how unique they are.
Some time ago I learned how to make jewellery and have amassed a massive amount of lovely findings and gorgeous, unusual beads. I also learned how to use fantastic Swarovski crystals to make beautiful pieces, some of which I will now be selling.
I am inspired by a range of designers, both established and starting out, along with amazing people all over the world who want to share their skills. Of course, the landscape around me is a constant source of inspiration. Living right by the water means I am at the mercy of our unpredictable weather but there are few days when I do not count my blessings for living in such a beautiful part of the world.
As well as my husband of over 35 years, I have a grown up son and daughter, and I have a black labrador dog called Mara who is 5 years old. She is a real character, in part as she is half Russian and her father has competed at Crufts. However, she is not a show dog by any stretch and loves nothing more than escaping to see what the sea has washed up that might be edible.
