About Naomi Harvey Paper Art

Naomi Harvey Paper Art

Hand-cut paper art inspired by folklore and folktale, wildlife and wildflowers, and a love of literature.

Hi, I'm Naomi, a Perthshire-based artist working exclusively with hand-cut paper. My creations are deeply influenced by my background in folksong and folklore, and a lifelong interest in the both natural world and the world of books. My work is inspired by my love of native flora and fauna, and celebrates the intricacies of the natural world and our relationship with it.

Based in my home studio in a wee village near Crieff, I first discovered paper cutting as a way to relax while pursuing a PhD in traditional song and sound archiving. What began as a leisure activity soon grew into a professional practice.

Paper cutting is a slow, meditative art form with its roots in traditional practices from across the globe. From the spark of an idea to the finished piece, my favourite aspect remains the simple, satisfying act of sliding the blade through paper to gradually reveal the image in mind.
