About Mindful Felting

Mindful Felting

Birds of all sizes artfully made in natural fibres

I'm Jacqui Double and I hand-make all the birds you see here using needlefelt craft techniques from plant and sheared animal fibres, foraged dried flowers, beachcombed driftwood or ethically and sustainably sourced bark pieces.

Here are some things you might not know about me, just in case you are feeling curious:

+ I started making birds in 2022 after I had Covid and didn’t fully recover my health
+ I hand-make birds using needle-felt techniques, which involves manipulating wool and plant fibres using sharp, barbed needles
+ Inspiration comes from watching birds on the beach, on holidays and bike rides, at reserves or in my garden
+ for me, catching the pose of a bird as if it could simply fly away is my goal
+ I concentrate on bird and botanical sculpture, inspired by amazing artists like
Elizabeth Gould and J.J.Audubon
+ My favourite bird is the sea-piercing, wind-riding, sharp-eyed Gannet
+ Beach-combing for wood along the Kent coast gives me a daily beach walk
+ I have a one-eared, black and white cat called Puddington who is too old to trouble any birds in my garden
