Passionate about Crafting

Hello and welcome!

I took early retirement about ten years ago owing to health problems and started crafting to keep my arthritic hands moving, also for something to occupy mind, body and Spirit following my retirement . I was a biomedical scientist and travelled extensively with my work. I am originally from Glasgow, but now live in Stranraer. The nature of my work required me to work in detail and in contrasting colours, something I feel is transferred to my art. I love travel, nature, architecture, music, photography, pets and gardening. I create my artwork whilst I listen to music incorporating nature so it's my real santcuary, plus my craft room overlooks my back garden.

I've been making things for as long as I can remember and when I see something that inspires me, I become alive and excited about trying new things. Plants and the designs of the natural world are things that I try to incorporate in my work. I love crystals and the amazing colours and patterns that they produce.

At present I'm mainly working with resin and I love to make things that are not only beautiful to look at, but very functional too. I have many ideas and many pieces to list. I have made canvases of leaves and flowers that I have collected and preserved myself and made a collage on a canvas encased in resin. I also make coasters and keyrings.

For years I had a pair of African Grey parrots who were my world, and when they both passed fairly recently within a short space of time with each other I was devastated. I realise the strong bond that pet owners have with their pets and the joy and the sorrow that they bring that am making coasters and bookmarks featuring pets and for those who have lost a beloved pet memorial keyrings.

I also make mosaics and have exhibited my work but have been concentrating in other fields recently.

I like to use alcohol inks, pigments, mica powders and acrylic paints.
