My name is Karolina and one day, about seven years ago, I found in my local shop this lovely, crocheted bear. I only just arrived in the area and started my new job. I was quite broke, so I didn't buy the bear immediately but I couldn't stop thinking about it. After couple of weeks, I went to the shop again and this lovely, crocheted bear was still there- I purchased it.
Apart for just being cute toy, it sparked an interest in me to start crocheting- and I knew from the start that my creations need to be a little bit different.
This is how Creatures of the Yarn came into being. I started- a bit obsessively to be honest- crocheting new characters. As a multimedia artist and crafter I've been doing all sorts of things, including painting, sculpting, photography ( I even have a pretty useless degree in it! ), needle felting, embroidery, jewellery making, pyrography- so this became just another skill and a very therapeutic way of expressing myself too.
From the beginning I decided to make one of a kind, freehand/spontaneously crocheted creatures for grown ups. Creatures with prominent face features and dopamine colors. Not all of them are smiling- because it aligns with reality. Sometimes we are grumpy. Sometimes we are sad. And it's ok!
Less than three years ago we moved to Shrewsbury, where I found a vibrant art community and had a chance to sell my creatures in a volunteer run art shop, which heart-breakingly stopped operating. But having a lovely feedback from customers I have finally decided to go online with my creations. And I hope they will bring whimsy to your life too!
Ps.: yes, I have a cat, and the older she gets the bigger nutso she becomes! (She's 11 :P)
