About Cranachan

Cranachan

I design and make brooches full of character.

Hi, I am Brenda. I live in a beautiful part of Scotland. inspiration comes from the fabulous countryside.
I make brooches of animals, birds and little Croft houses or cottages. The brooches are created with needle felt, wet felt or felted crochet and sometimes all three techniques in one brooch. I try to put a bit of character into the animal brooches I make. I have plenty of inspiration in the form of my cocker spaniel who is overflowing with love and mischief in equal measure.
As a child I was brought up in house with a mother who could turn her hand to any task and craft, my father who had a letterpress printing business at home and a brother who did leather work. There was always an abundance of paper, fabrics, paints, inks, pencils and yarn with which to experiment.
I was taught to crochet by a friend when I was about 9 years old, crochet has since been a life long passion. I work with natural fibres. I have made felted crochet bags and have sold and sent them to USA, Australia, New Zealand, China France Germany and the UK. I am going to name drop now! Mohamed Al Fayed has even bought one!
My sailing design backpack pattern has been included in "Inside Crochet" magazine.
I love to work on commissions especially dog brooches.
