What Inspires Me?
Hello and welcome! My name is Calvin, and I am the heart and hands behind Cosmic Carving Connections, where I breathe new life into wood through spiritual, one-of-a-kind carvings. My deepest inspiration comes from the intersection of the ancient woodland and the vast cosmos. I have always been artistic, and I fundamentally appreciate authentic, different art—the kind that tells a genuine story. I am constantly drawn to the quiet, powerful wisdom found in nature—the silent language of the trees, the resilience of mycelium, and the mysteries held within bone and stone. This earthly energy is paired with the limitless perspective of the stars, resulting in pieces that are both grounded and transcendent. The goal is always to create a unique wood spirit or cosmic relic that feels like it has always existed, waiting to find its keeper.
How Did You Start?
I have always been deeply involved in expressive disciplines. My background includes years spent as a tattooist, as well as extensive experience in drawing and painting. This mastery of line work, shading, and anatomical detail transitioned naturally into woodcraft. For me, carving is the ultimate form of artistic expression, allowing me to combine the ruggedness of natural materials with the precision of fine detail.
Where Do You Work?
I design, carve, and finish every single item by hand right here in my dedicated workshop in Peterborough. Everything is meticulously crafted using traditional tools and pyrography (wood burning) before being sealed with natural oils.
What Do You Make?
I specialise in creating bespoke, handcrafted wood art, including:
Hand-Carved Staves and Walking Sticks: Unique pieces featuring mystical faces, spiraling details, and often accented with natural gemstones.
Rustic Wall Art: Meaningful home decor that incorporates symbolism, nature, and deep, rustic texture.
Have You Got Any Cats?
No cats, but I have a helpful little creature who assists in the workshop! We have a resident house spider on the windowsill who keeps things tidy by taking care of the flies. Every workshop needs a good security detail!
