Hello I am Gaia.
My love of textiles, like many peoples, originated as a child when learning to crochet, knit and sew with my mum. She was always happy to be making things with me; in fact, over 45 years on, she still is! Some of my happiest times have been crafting with my mum.
As I grew so did my passion for texture and constructed textiles. Over the years I learned to weave, spin, dye, construct clothes even creating sculptures and installations. I went to Coventry University and gained an HND in Art & Craft (Textiles) and later went to Birmingham City University to study Fine Art gaining a First Class BA Hons.
After years in the arts, I found that I was craving a slower pace and a much less pressured environment. A friend commissioned me to weave a shawl, and the light bulb went on. 'This is what I need to do!'. So, I left my job and returned to my first love of textiles.
I now create themed art batts for spinners, drawing on the natural environment, nostalgic memories and colours around me that inspire my creativity. I spin fabulous super chunky art yarns, weave fabric for garments and create arty dreads for hair which I just love wearing. Candyfloss Cloud is a lovely mixture of fun with a hint of nostalgia.
As for the name Candyfloss Cloud, this comes from a comment that our sons girlfriend made when she saw my Art Batts for the first time. She thought they looked like Candyfloss. The name fitted beautifully. Thank you Ximena. x
