About Trefoil Stained Glass

Trefoil Stained Glass

Contemporary stained glass creations to add colour and light to your life!

I have always loved colour. Ever since I was small, the expressive immediacy provided by a chunky wax crayon, or the alchemical quality of gloopy poster paint proved spellbinding like no other childhood pursuit. As I grew older, my appreciation of tone, line and form became more studious, and at age 15 I was selected for a work experience placement at a local stained glass studio. Here I was introduced to a world of pure, absolute colour unadulterated by paper or canvas or board - just light and hue - stained glass!

After school I completed further studies including a National Diploma in Art and Design and a BA in Design, before going on to work for several years with established and emerging contemporary artists via independent galleries and publishing house outlets. It was awe-inspiring to see the variety of bold and dynamic colours blended on the artists' palettes and reproduced by the print masters via silkscreen or giclee, yet few captured the luminosity of the sculptural glass forms standing proud on plinths, glowing amber, cool cobalt and ruby red. And so, following a varied career both in and out of the art and design industry, I took a leap of faith and sought out my original passion.

Having completed a couple of short courses in stained glass, specialising in the copper foil technique developed by Louis Comfort Tiffany in the 1890s, I set up my home studio here in leafy Hampshire. With a lot of trial and error, a lot of broken glass, and a seemingly never-ending supply of love, encouragement and support from my wonderful husband, I set up Trefoil Stained Glass in 2018.
