I specialise in freestyle machine embroidery, which is essentially using my sewing machine needle like a pencil to draw and write, creating embroideries using scraps of fabric and layering different colours of thread. I like to incorporate embroidery from vintage linen and preloved fabric from sofas, curtains and clothes for a unique look to every piece. I then turn these embroideries into items for the home.
I have been sewing since I was a teenager, but it was only when I discovered freestyle machine embroidery a few years ago that my creativity was truly unleashed.
My work is inspired by the beautiful Scottish countryside around me, autumn colours and birds especially. Also, despite living about as far from the sea as is possible in Scotland, I adore seascapes, and lighthouses, which will often feature in my embroideries.
