It all started with my old, worn out shower curtain ... but trying to find one that was plastic-free was a struggle ... finally I managed to source some, but the cost was so extravagant (£90 upwards was beyond my purse strings!!). So I decided to face the challenge head-on ... and, to cut a long story about research, prototypes, Trading Standards meetings and a lots of testing; the Organic Shower Curtain Company was born.
By sourcing organic and natural materials for the shower curtains, we have created shower curtains which are not only fully functional and fit for purpose, but also have minimal environmental impact in their production.
They are made 100% plastic and chemical free, and with the latest research highlighting the toxicity of your average shower curtain, and our oceans becoming filled with micro-plastics this can only be a good thing. [most commercial shower curtains contain PVC, PEVA or synthetic material containing micro-plastic fibres]
And when you have had enough the fabric is 100% bio-degradable, which when you learn that at present there are enough plastic shower curtains in landfill to wrap the planet several times over, thats quite scary. [Even the shower curtain eyelets will bio-degrade, but the natural corrosion of metal will take longer than the fabric to completely bio-degrade back into mother-nature]
We also love trees & bumble bees and realise how important our pollinating pals are in this world, so we are planting wildflowers and native plants for our wildlife to continue to thrive & flourish, and, having partnered up with 'One Tree Planted' we will plant one tree for every order via these amazing people.

Your Organic Shower Curtain* is made in accordance to ‘The General Product Safety Regulations 2005, however please keep your Organic Shower Curtain away from naked flames. (jobs-worth warning!!)
FAQ:
Is your packaging plastic free? Yes, we only use plastic-free packaging.
What is GOTS? GOTS stands for Global Organic Textile Standards, it is an internationally recognised standard that advocates sustainable production. It maintains stringent regulations that the product has been manufactured in a socially responsible and environmentally compatible manner. GOTS defines ecological and social criteria to which companies are required to commit, such as the use of organically cultivated fibres, the exclusion of toxic substances and a minimum wage.
How long will my organic shower curtain last? When looked after it should last you for years.
To keep your Organic Shower Curtain in tip-top condition you want to inhibit bathroom mould (which is in fact an airborne bacteria which thrives in damp conditions, to understand more please read the ‘how to inhibit bathroom mould’ section). Please strive to KEEP YOUR SHOWER CURTAIN AS DRY AS POSSIBLE BETWEEN USES. An easy way is to use your Hanging Hook to hang over the tub after use to dry, simply attach to shower rail, soap dish, whatever works for you & your shower.
How to inhibit bathroom mould; To inhibit mould you must strive to keep your curtain as dry as possible between uses!
We help achieve this by reducing the amount of excess fabric which remains in contact with the side of your bath tub or shower stall during & between uses. By reducing this type of contact it lessens the chance of moisture remaining on the shower curtain, which is where the mould loves to breed.
In addition we reduce the use of thick hems wherever possible, such as along the selvage edge of the fabrics, the reason we do not hem the selvage edges is because additional thicker hem edges add to the water retention whilst drying shower curtains, obviously some hems are integral but where possible we avoid them (usually this is down the sides of your shower curtain) as this aids quicker drying (remember the best shower curtain care is to allow it to dry fully between uses)
The selvage edge of the fabric, the sides which run parallel along the length of the fabric, is a ‘self-finished' edge which will not fray, [unlike the weft edge, which is the top and bottom edge of your shower curtain, which are both hemmed]. Often fabric suppliers will incorporate an identifying thread along the warp (selvage) edge for identification purposes, especially if it is a selvage edge which has the appearance of slight fraying, such as some of our organic cottons. On one occasion we had some of the identifying stitching along the selvage came loose, which I totally agree looked unsightly and as if stitching is coming undone, however let me reassure you, if this ever happens again, it is not stitching which is integral to the shower curtains functionality… in fact I have tested pulling the identifying thread gently away and it didn’t compromise the integrity of the selvage edge at all, so please rest assured ‘just in case’.
*Please note measurements are as accurate as possible but here may be slight discrepancies (up to 2.5cm)
How do I clean my shower curtain? During its life you should regularly wash our washable shower curtains, every month or two, we recommend a 30oC cycle.
Please do not use harsh household chemicals cleaners on your Organic Shower Curtain, not only will this bring you in contact with harmful chemicals they will also damage your Organic Shower Curtain.
Is there any extra care & upkeep I may need to do? our waxed shower curtains (now discontinued range) will need refreshing occasionally, depending on use & care, but possibly every year(-ish). This is simple to do, all you need is an iron, some beeswax or a tin of our shower curtain re-proofing wax, (I will send you a complimentary mini block of beeswax with your shower curtain) and some grease-proof paper (just to protect your iron & board from wax), full instructions given with your Organic Shower Curtain.
Occasionally your shower curtain may develop the odd watermark, but if you do it is in fact nothing to worry about. Watermarks are simply a result of water remaining too long on fabric before drying out; it is actually not the water but the minerals in the water that cause the mark! Watermarks are easy to remove; simply dampen the area (ironic isn’t it!!) and this will help dissipate the mark, then dry off the area thoroughly and quickly, a towel or hairdryer should do the job. Please note there may occassionally be very slight imperfections/markings on the fabrics, this is a natural occurrence due to the nature of the Fabrics we source, we consider them part of the charm of natural, organic, chemical-free fabrics.
Will it billow? No, our shower curtains have been ‘billow-tested’ and they do not billow like flimsy plastic curtains tend to. This is because they are made with more weight and substance to the fabric, yet they are still lightweight enough for any shower curtain rod to comfortably hold with no concern at all.
Do you post overseas? Not yet!! At the moment we only post within the UK (including PFBO), however we hope to be posting internationally soon, watch this space!
*please note that the shower curtain listings are for the shower curtain and our innovative drying hook only ... whilst you may see some shower curtain hooks and shower curtain rail in some of the photos they are a necessity to be able to show the shower curtain ‘in situ’ ... rather than a flat folded shower curtain. If you require shower curtain hooks also please see our 'easy glide' shower curtain hooks which are in a separate listing.

A lovely new shower curtain. The thinner version works well and dries quicker. Like the light floaty look.

This is the second time I have bought a shower curtain from Folksy. Both times I received the delivery very quickly and have been very happy with the quality and aesthetics of the curtains.
