Nice to meet you *extends virtual handshake* I'm Jess aka Loadofolbobbins, a textile artist and illustrator based by the sea in Portsmouth. As soon as my tiny toddler hands had their first finger painting experience it was clear that I was destined for a career in the arts. I’ve been making work for as long as I can remember and have always enjoyed the challenge of coming up with original ideas for things to make. Luckily for me, I have had ever willing and supportive guinea pigs in the shape of family and friends to road test a lot of these ideas – no birthday or Christmas escaped my handmade magic. Finally taking the plunge and selling my creations has been a natural progression from this.
In recent years I’ve entered a number of art competitions, with some success. One of my pieces, ‘Calling at...’, can be found hanging on the wall at the Bankside entrance of Blackfriar’s station tantalisingly close to Tate Modern. If you’re ever out that way you could always take a peek.
I graduated with a degree in Textile Art back in *cough* 2008 *cough* and my first serious foray into illustration came a few years later when inspired and encouraged by my family I had the privilege of creating artwork for my sisters wedding, which led to a commission for illustrations in a recipe book. By this time the illustrating bug had taken hold, and you can see the results in my shop. With a pen in one hand and a needle and thread in the other I have created what you see in my shop today; I hope you have as much fun looking at them as I had making them.
Happy shopping everyone!

A lovely idea to have mix and match insects and unusual species as well.
