I worked for a jewellery company for 18 years but it closed down & I was made redundant when I was 8 months pregnant. After a few months trying to think of a way I could work from home I had a dream that I was growing flowers in the garden & encasing them in glass coasters. Which obviously wouldn't work as the flowers would burn up in the heat of the kiln, but I woke up thinking, 'I've always liked things made from glass, why not give it a try'. So I ordered a kiln and a couple of books on the basics of fusing glass, and here I am today. Several years later and completely self taught.
