Demelza Designs is a small business based in Cornwall. All jewellery and knitwear is designed and hand created by the founder Gail who is inspired by the idyllic environment of the north cornish coastline where she has lived for over thirty five years.
At the age of seventeen I started to study fashion design full time at Oxford prior to moving on to attend the prestigious former 'Medway College of Design in Kent, also attended by the famous Dame Zandra Rhodes. It was later renamed 'aa The University for Creative Art's. This further full time two years course allowed me to gain the skills to advance as a designer gleaning from the natural environment. The main training focus was having the ability to adapt our designs into wearable fashionable clothing including making and grading the patterns to various sizes. The course also focused on production processes for limited collection manufacturing. Being a designer requires imagination, an eye for colour, detail and ideally the practical skills to turn designs into a finished product. This has helped considerably for a small business such as mine.
At the the age of 31 years I opened my own designer labelled baby and toddlers clothing boutique in a picturesque, peaceful tranquil cornish cove within a two minututes walk from the sea selling direct to the general public, now known as Demelza Designs. Over this fourteen year period my work was purchased by people from around the world as gifts for either their own children, grandchildren, their immediate family or just as gifts for their friends children. I had also been featured in a childrens BBC programme and interviewed on BBC Radio Cornwall along with endless local articles written about my work.
Due to becoming physically disabled I had to close my shop to recover from major multiple spinal operations and major open brain surgery. With determination I have been able to return to what I love doing in a much smaller scale ; designing and making unique quality products to very high standards for people who appreciate and value what the true meaning of 'designer and hand made' truly represents and not regarding craft skills as inferior to the corporate world of mass production, which often exploits the poorest vulnerable people in the world including children!
The vast majority of my work is a 'one off ' because I do not like to create the exact same piece of work twice. I am a stickler for perfection and the reason why I meticulously hand make each piece of my designs. In 2015 I was approved by the largest prestigious 'National Association of Jewellers' (NAJ) as a British Jewellery Designer/Craft Person having meet their vigorous vetting professes required within the UK jewellery industry. All genuine gemstones used are ethically sourced and tested by GIA qualified gemmologists by my gemstone supplier's based in the UK. All of my baby and toddler knitwear conforms to UK safety standards; for example, no straps or long ties on baby hats!
I hope you enjoy perusing around my shop for those special items for your loved ones as much as I have enjoyed desiging and making them.

I bought the bracelet and emailed to see if I could get a matching necklace too. It was made the very next day and shipped. That's what I call customer service.
