Demelza Designs is a small business based in Cornwall. All jewellery and knitwear is designed and hand created by the founder Gail who is inspired by the cornish north coast where she has lived for over thirty five years.
At the age of 12 years old my passion for fashion began by starting to make my own clothes and knitting my school cardigans. At the age of 17 years old I started to study fashion design at Oxford prior to moving on to attend the prestigious former 'Medway College of Design' in Kent.
In 1991 I opened my own baby and toddlers clothing boutique in Cornwall designing, making and selling my own designer childens clothing and knitwear direct to the general public for 14 years. My work was purchased by people from around the world as gifts for either their own children, grandchildren, their immediate family or for their friends children. During this period I had been featured in a childrens BBC programme and interviewed on BBC Radio Cornwall along with endless articles written about my work from my little studio boutique based in Travaunance Cove, St. Agnes.
In 2003 I decided to have a complete career change into health care attending full time studies at Portsmouth University. Due to becoming physically disabled I could no longer work on the front line in the main Cornwall NHS hospital's emergency operating theatres. I returned back to my passion designing and creating beautiful things on a much smaller scale within the limitations of my disability. I am a stickler for perfection and I enjoy doing what I love; being creative for those seeking total individuality and quality.
Demelza Designs jewellery is registered with the National Association of Jewellers (NAJ) and abides by their professional customer charter. They are the U.K’s trusted leading authority within the jewellery retail and trade sector and recognised worldwide. The term 'precious'and 'semi-precious' for gemstones is no longer recognised by the GIA as best practice. This is because many semi precious gemstones are now more expensive than precious gemstones. Leading jewellery retailers are following best practice and no longer using these terms to describe genuine gemstone jewellery. However, many are still using both terms to describe their gemstone jewellery.
Man made turquoise (reconstituted) is disclosed at the point of sale and not miss sold as genuine turquoise! Genuine turquoise is described as 'stabalised' and recognised by the GIA as a genuine gemstone mineral. It is considerably more expensive in all grades within the jewellery trade worldwide. Rule of thumb if its cheap it's not genuine turquoise, buyers please be aware.
The majority of all gemstones have had some form of treatment to enhance their appearance. For trusted information the GIA provides a good educational list of treatments used within the jewellery industry worldwide on their website. Demelza Designs gemstone beads are carefully selected for their cut, colour, clarity, rarity and availability. Each gemstone piece of jewellery is therefore individually priced accordingly. All gemstone strand beads purchased are tested for their authenticity by qualified GIA gemstone gemologists by Demelza Designs gemstone suppliers based in the UK registered with the NAJ. Their gemstone cutting houses are based in Jaipur, India.
Earring findings are compliant with EN1811:201 standards including nickel free. Findings are purchased from trusted suppliers registered with the NAJ wherever possible. Only quality high end freshwater culture pearls are used in all Demelza Designs jewellery from trusted suppliers.

Gail suggested restringing this necklace with the silver beads in between the main stones, which was a thought that had not occurred to me. Also she suggested making earrings by shortening the necklace which was quite long on me. It has so improved the appearance of the necklace, all down to Gail's design skills. So pleased with how the necklace looks now with matching earrings. Must also say that the silver used is excellent quality.
