My work is all about taking illustrations from pen to thread — capturing the small details that create expression, gesture and personality.
I’ve always loved drawing, crafting, embroidery — anything “makey”, if you like. It keeps my very busy brain from overthinking and allows me to concentrate on the here and now.
Being able to create at home is the perfect set-up. I don’t have one specific place to work; I tend to move around the house depending on where there’s a sunny spot or a good radiator to sit beside (good old British weather!).
I’m also extremely lucky to manage my time around my son. Often he’ll see what I’m making and want to give it a go himself, which makes the whole process even more special.
I usually begin in my sketchbook, working from photo inspiration — capturing people, poses and expressions before recreating them in thread. I try to keep my original drawn lines as much as possible. I also sell some of my sketches, with a few tweaks, as A4 prints or PDF downloads so they can be enjoyed or used however you choose.
My embroidery pieces are made using a mixture of threads given to me by my Nan, who was a keen stitcher herself. I work in embroidery hoops or on canvas to create wall art that has been carefully and lovingly made — with time, care and attention given to every detail until everything feels just right.
The joy that comes from making my work — and the peace it brings — gives me a sense of calm and happiness I can’t quite explain. And when someone chooses to purchase a piece, knowing it will live in their home, that happiness goes completely off the charts.
