About CapernwrayFelts

CapernwrayFelts

Colourful country and coastal textile art, lovingly needle felted with Merino wool, silver wire, beads and twisted fibres.

In my experience, being outside in nature provides endless opportunities for mindfulness and creativity. The benefits to mental health of being surrounded by green landscapes and blue seascapes are bountiful whether being surrounded by fields, forests or oceans. Since retiring from teaching, I’ve been fortunate enough to photograph landscapes during my travels and enjoy creating unique pieces of dry and wet felted artwork which are abstractly portrayed with the addition of a variety of textures and colours.

Many of my pieces of textile art have been inspired by local countryside locations and landmarks in the peaceful hamlet of Capernwray where I have a small studio; others have been inspired by various places I have visited. My recent development of childrens’ textile art includes humorous pieces and needle felted Aesop’s Fables illustrations. Each unique piece is hand made using dry and/ or wet felting techniques. Detail is added using hand embroidery techniques such as slow stitching using silk fibres emphasising the lines and folds within the landscape.

The pictures are primarily created using hand dyed Merino and Gotland sheeps’ wool; curly wool; twisted yarns; nepps; effect fibres such as mulberry silk; sari silk; wooden beads, glass beads and silver wire used to create focus.
