October 2024: I-SPY QUILTS - What makes an I-Spy quilt special? It’s not ‘just’ a cosy blanket or a fun play rug (although it is those things too!). Dotted all over an I-Spy quilt are fabrics with prints featuring anything from astronauts to zebras! Toddlers love playing the finding game: spread the quilt on the floor, on a sofa or outdoors on the grass; look for particular images or name the objects as they find them. Older children can have fun searching for particular images incorporating phonics learning as they play I-Spy With My Little Eye something beginning with …
Want to make an I-Spy quilt? Treat yourself to one of my specially curated pre-cut packs of novelty fabrics The packs contain 5" squares of 100% cotton print fabrics all carefully rotary cut - every square is different, no repeats!
Lots of gift ideas: bags, fabric sewing basket sets, quilts, table runners, fabric packs and patterns.

I am a life-long maker and crafter. I discovered patchwork and quilting in 2010, joined a local quilt group, completed some excellent classes and since then have spent a lot of time sewing! As my passion for the craft has grown, I've worked my way through several sewing machines, progressed from working on the dining room table to having the luxury of a home sewing studio (some people call it the 'guest room', but really?), and now I enjoy designing and making patchwork quilts alongside the pleasure of teaching at a local quilt shop.
There are many different stages to making a patchwork quilt, requiring a wide range of skills: creating a design, colour choices, fabric selection, cutting and piecing (sewing all the shapes together), selecting the backing fabric and the wadding, choosing a stitching design to secure the three layers together (that's the quilting) and finally making the binding to tidy up the raw edges around the quilt.
New Every Morning Patchwork and Quilting provides me with so many opportunities to be creative: developing designs using coloured pencils, graph paper and computer software; finding colour inspiration in fabric ranges and the natural world; adapting techniques, skills and tools to cut and piece the fabric; and using a variety of quilt stitching methods to add complimentary texture to the patchwork.
I use my skills to make a variety of patchwork items including quilts and throws, wall hangings, bed runners, table runners and bags. I enjoy designing and making traditional, geometric, 'block' designs but also enjoy the challenge of stretching these block making skills to use modern fabric prints, developing contemporary designs. New Every Morning Patchwork & Quilting will always have a mix of traditional and modern because I am inspired both by the history of quilt making and the amazing new ranges of fabrics being produced year on year by designers all around the world.
